Krajši sedelni list pri izdelavi sedla za majhnega jahača ne bo prinesel boljšega prileganja. Če kolenska podloga sedla tišči v koleno, lahko obrne nogo stran od konja in zelo težko bo obdržati notranji del noge ob konju.

Prva stvar, ki jo je potrebno narediti je, da se izdela sedlo z ozkim prednjim sediščem, to je najožjim delom sedišča oz. sedelnega ogrodja. Tega pogosto razumemo narobe. Ljudje mislijo, da je v predelu presredka. Dejansko pa je to  tisti del sedla, ki je med jahačevimi stegni v zgornjem delu. Če je širok, bo pri majhnem jahaču še več prostora med nogo in sedlom in jahač bo sedel kot na sodu ter ne bo mogel nog spraviti ob konja. Posebej za ženske je zaradi oblike njihove medenice boljše, če je ta del sedišča ožji.

Deli sedla v angleškem jeziku za lažje razumevanje

Delal sem v Nemčiji, Angliji, Kanadi, ZDA in Južni afriki in v vsaki državi imenujejo ta sprednji del sedišča drugače. Dejansko pomeni tisti del, ki ga jahač čuti med stegni v zgornjem delu. V Angliji mislim, da ta del imenujejo “waist”, v Ameriki pa “twist”. (Oba izraza v dobesednem prevodu ne poimenujeta dobro tega dela sedla, op.p.) Poimenovanje je lahko poljubno, kar je pomembno, je del sedla, na katerega se nanaša in ga moramo upoštevati pri prilagajanju sedla.

Širina sprednjega dela sedišča nima popolnoma nobene veze s konjem. Lahko imate sedlo z zelo ozkim sprednjim delom sedišča  na zelo širokem konju in obratno. Jahačev zgornji del stegna leži na sedlu v predelu vpetja stremena, ki pa je pravzaprav dokaj odmaknjen od konja. Širina sedelnega ogrodja, kot to razumemo, je širina za konja, širina sprednjega dela sedišča pa je širina za jahača.

Majhni jahači potrebujejo srednje širok ali široko postavljene šive, ki potekajo vzdolžno po sedlu na vrhu in se nahajajo direktno pod mednožjem jahača. Ti šivi držijo štiri dele sedla skupaj, kar pomeni, da so precej debeli. Njihova srednje široka oz. široka postavitev zagotavlja, da ti šivi  jahača ne odrgnejo. Ker je ženska medenica nagnjena nekoliko bolj naprej kot moška, bi pri ženski zaradi ozke postavitve teh šivov lahko le-ti pritisnili ob rob sramne vezi in povzročali bolečine. Široko sedišče na zadnjem, najširšem delu sedla bo majhnemu jahaču nudilo več udobja.

Na splošno je ženskam v vsakem primeru bolj udobno v sedlih s širokim sediščem, ker imajo sedne kosti širše narazen kot moški. Prav tako sedlo s tanjšimi sedelnimi blazinami na spodnji strani sedla zmanjša plasti, ki so med konjem in jahačem in tako tako sedlo omogoča majhnemu jahaču boljši stik njegovih nog s konjem, posebej ko jahajo konje s širokim trupom.

Velikost sedišča sedla pa je odvisna tudi od velikosti konja. Če ima jahač kratke noge, to še ne pomeni, da potrebuje majhno sedlo. Poznam majhne in vitke ženske, ki jahajo v 18½ colskih sedlih. Velikost sedišča sedla je odvisna od obsega jahačevih bokov in stegen. Prav tako je odvisna tudi od dolžine konjevega hrbta in trebuha. Diskusija o velikosti sedla nas nujno vodi do velikosti naslona in širine ogrodja. Jahači s kratkimi nogami potrebujejo ozek sprednji del sedišča, srednje široko do široko umeščene vzdolžne šive, široko sedišče in tanjše sedelne blazine, skupaj s krajšim sedelnim listom. Prav tako je priporočljivo, da sedlo pomaga izbrati strokovnjak, da se bo le-to dobro prilagajalo ne le jahaču, temveč tudi konju.

Zapomniti si je potrebno, da širina sedelnega loka, ki sega preko vihra, nima nikakršne zveze z jahačem. Ta je pomembna le za dobro prileganje sedla v predelu vihra. Upoštevamo lahko širino ogrodja na več delih, vendar ima večina pomen za prileganje konju, ne jahaču. Zapomniti si velja, da je posebej pomembno, da je jahaču udobno, sicer – ne glede na to, kako dobro se sedlo prilega konju – konjne bo nikoli zmogel dati od sebe svojega optimuma, saj se jahačevo neudobje vedno prenese na konja.
